ARTICLE 1. / General provisions
ZagrebDox is an international documentary film festival taking place in Zagreb, Croatia every year, from late February to early March. Offering an insight into contemporary documentary film production, the Festival is also a place where film professionals can share creative ideas for their future projects. One of the goals of ZagrebDox is to encourage cooperation of filmmakers in Southeastern Europe and to help local and regional documentarists to become acquainted with European and world co-productions.
ARTICLE 2 / Program
The Festival competition program consists of Regional and International Programs.
- Regional Competition Program (for films from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro and Slovenia)
- nternational Competition Program (for films from the rest of the world). The Festival also includes non-competition programs such as retrospectives, special programs etc.
ARTICLE 3 / Conditions for Submission
Authors, producers and national film authorities may submit films for Regional and International Competition Programs.
Only the films completed and/or screened publicly after January 1, 2007 can participate in the competition programs.
Documentary films of all lengths, topics and production technologies can be submitted. The film formats acceptable for screening on ZagrebDox are: 35mm, Digital Beta (Pal), Beta SP (Pal) HDV, DVCam and DV.
The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2007 (the date of the stamp on the envelope).
A filled out application form must send together with a DVD (all regions) or a VHS tape (PAL or NTSC). The form and a DVD or VHS recording must be sent at the sender’s expense to:

There is no submission fee. All the submitted films must have English subtitles and a printed dialogue list.
ARTICLE 4 / Selection and Screenings
The Festival Director selects films for the Competition Programs. The number of films in each program will depend on the length of individual films. Each of the selected films will be screened not more than three times during the Festival. After the selection is made, the Festival will notify the authors of the selected films by e-mail, fax or mail, not later than by January 20, 2008. All the selected films will be shown with both English and Croatian subtitles.
ARTICLE 5 / Awards
The official awards of ZagrebDox are:
- Big Stamp Award - for best film in International Competition Program
- Big Stamp Award - for best film in Regional Competition Program
- Little Stamp Award - for the best film of a young author of up to 30 years of age
- Audience Award - Audience Choice Award for Best Film
The official awards consist of a statue, a diploma and a cash prize the amount of which depends on the Festival’s budget.
- Special Awards - may be given by the Festival, experts, professional organizations, NGOs, media etc.
ARTICLE 6. / The Juries
Festival Director will propose to the Festival Board jury members for each competition category.
- International Jury – presents Big Stamp Award for Best Film in International Competition Program. This jury is composed of three recognized international experts for documentary film.
- Regional Jury – presents Big Stamp Award for Best Film in Regional Competition Program. It is composed of three recognized international experts for documentary film.
- Student's Jury - presents the award for the best film by a young author (up to 30 years of age). It is composed of the students of the Zagreb Academy of Drama Arts.
- Special Juries – present the awards in special competition categories; each jury is governed by their particular rules and criteria.
The winner of the Audience Award is selected on the basis of average rating given by the audience after the screening of a particular film.
ARTICLE 7 / Press Materials and Shipments
An application form must be submitted along with:
• A brief synopsis of the film (in English)
• At least 3 photographs from the film (they can be sent separately by e-mail)
• A dialogue list in English
• Director’s photo and biography
• Promo material (press kits, posters, etc.), if any.
The Festival will use the above mentioned materials in the festival catalogue, on its Internet pages and for press releases.
Film prints and video tapes will be returned to senders after the Festival at the Festival’s expense.
Preview materials will not be returned.
The Festival retains the right to reject film copies and/or video tapes of low technical quality that could create problems during screening.
By signing the application form, the producer or director shall accept the regulations of the ZagrebDox Festival
ARTICLE 8 / Accommodation
Subject to availability of funds, the Organizer will cover 3-day accommodation for a representative of a film in a competition program.
ARTICLE 9 / The Organizer
The Organizer of ZagrebDox International Film Festival is Factum, an NGO and non-profit association.

ARTICLE 10 / Final Provisions
These Rules are written in Croatian and English languages. For the purposes of interpretation, Croatian version shall be authoritative. The issues not covered by these Regulations shall be reviewed directly by the Festival Organizer in accordance with the general regulations. All participants of the Festival shall accept these Regulations. In case of any lawsuit, the competent court in Zagreb shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all issues related to the Festival.
